The clouded SCM judgment of Oracle
At the Oracle Value Chain Summit, the Redwood Shores, California-based vendor said it planned more rollouts of cloud-based versions of its supply chain tools this year. Among the applications slated for cloud versions are order management and global order promising in the near term and demand management and supply planning at a later date. What’s telling about Oracle’s supply chain strategy are the omissions on the schedule for this year: cloud-based versions of inventory and network optimization; two solutions that deliver strong financial value and a high return on investment by cutting supply chain costs. The delay in offering these critical applications could cost Oracle the opportunity to gain wider adoption of supply chain management tools beyond its current installed base of business users.
