Automates financial closing process, improves data access and quality while easing regulatory compliance and boosting productivity, according to Nucleus Research

BOSTON – January 6, 2008 – Nucleus Research analysts have independently examined the deployment of BlackLine Systems Account Reconciliation software for a US-based telecommunications company to find a return on investment (ROI) of 689% with full payback in less than two months.
One of the largest global telecommunications providers, the company offers a wide variety of packages to businesses and consumers, including IP-based communications, wireless and high-speed Internet access as well as local and long distance voice service.

The company faced challenges around balance sheet reconciliation during the asset valuation review (AVR) process, since each department within the company was responsible for handling its own account reconciliation, including reconciling sub-legers and general ledgers, with each using its own method. Further, there was no formal way to control the data to ensure that it was valid and current. This was especially important to meet Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, which requires accountability for the accuracy of all financial reporting.

The company deployed BlackLine Systems Account Reconciliation module to reduce its reliance on error-prone manual accounts reconciliation and monitoring processes. As a result, it improved efficiency while reducing risk and made it easier to integrate the accounting processes of new acquisitions. This also led to improved data access, an increase in productivity and a reduction in printing costs.

“With the BlackLine Systems solution, this telecommunications provider was able to streamline its overall reconciliation process, improve the quality of its data and better prepare for compliance issues. This is a solid case of how technology can deliver multiple benefits” said Rebecca Wettemann, VP of research, Nucleus Research.
