Benefit case study: AWS Industrial IoT

A global manufacturer of building materials implemented an AWS industrial IoT solution to achieve cost savings and energy efficiency for its operational technology infrastructure and replace a legacy Rockwell Vantage Point system that relied on outdated Flash components. By deploying AWS IoT SiteWise across its Insulated Panels division, the organization standardized data collection and visualization across plants spanning Europe, North America, the Middle East, India, Australia, and New Zealand. The move reduced site deployment time by 95 percent, from three weeks to a single day, while eliminating on-premises servers, licensing costs, and maintenance requirements. These efficiencies enabled the company to scale IoT adoption globally without adding IT staff or infrastructure. In addition to improvements in speed and cost, real-time monitoring and statistical process control (SPC) dashboards increased visibility across manufacturing lines, helping operators identify parameter deviations and minimize downtime. Managers gained secure remote access through web portals, while sustainability improved through the removal of server rooms, reducing approximately five metric tons of CO₂ emissions per site annually. Together, these outcomes demonstrate how AWS IIoT has enabled the manufacturer to achieve scalable, cost-efficient, and environmentally conscious operations across its global network of manufacturing facilities.
