ECM: lagging or leading the market

ECM has been deceptive in terms of how the market is exhibiting, or not exhibiting, a consistent move to the cloud alongside its partner markets such as CRM and HCM. The reality is that organizations are still reluctant to take ECM to the cloud and eliminate on-premise repositories. The success of deployments experienced in the cloud shows that while organizations may be reluctant to move all at once, there is value in a long-term strategy to move content to the cloud, particularly due to the value from other cloud-based enterprise applications engaging stored content. As a result, while it is pertinent to contemplate individual cloud migrations, the real question that needs answering is whether or not ECM is lagging its partner markets in getting to the cloud, or if the ECM market is spurring its own revolution as the next frontier of cloud development for platform integration.
