Style and Substance OpenText Acquires Actuate

On December 5, 2014, OpenText announced the acquisition of Actuate. Though OpenText and Actuate compete in the ECM space, where the companies don’t overlap is far more interesting than where they do. Actuate is one of the creators of BIRT, a java-based business intelligence reporting tool. Actuate is also experienced as an open-source platform. Actuate’s BI capabilities fulfill the business need to analyze information as we increasingly adopt big data. Moreover, incorporating elements of Actuate’s business model and leveraging its years of experience, OpenText can provide a unique value proposition for its customers.
